The Red Lion, North Quay Hill, Newquay, TR7 1HE
The Red Lion is a dog-friendly pub offering spectacular views across Newquay the Atlantic ocean. Situated on the corner of North Quay Hill, this establishment is well worth the visit, even if only for the scenery!

Wolfie Ordered: Smothered chicken & chips
I ordered: Scampi & chips
Wolfie’s chicken was a little dry, and my scampi and chips had a bizarre taste of some sort of cleaning product. The scampi was a little sparse and lost on the plate, making it appear as though I wasn’t getting a good deal for money. The chicken was regarded as “tough but tasty”, so an overall average result for this pub.
The staff in this establishment were without fault. They were fast, friendly and always smiling. They’d stop for a chat and were more than patient when we ordered. When my Mum requested “the biggest mug of tea that you can find”, the barman shot off to find an extra big mug for her. You can’t do much better for customer service than that!
My only criticism for this pub and atmosphere was in the toilets. The ladies’ are a little too short in cubicle length and I had to straddle the toilet to be able to open and close the door! In the lounge, wall art and TVs display lots of history about Newquay and you can almost take in the history of this surf haven while enjoying a pint of beer. Dogs are welcome too, so you won’t have to leave man’s best friend outside!
Overall, The Red Lion is definitely worth a visit. The food wasn’t spectacular, but the scenery and friendliness of the staff more than made up for it on their own. All in, The Red Lion scores a very respectable 4/5 stars.
